Questions
Where do the readings come from, and how should I use them?
Readings come from the World Air Quality Index Project and are attributed to the reporting environmental agency. Times are shown in the monitoring station’s local time, and available pollutants and forecasts depend on the station. The local trend builds as you use the app. Air-quality information and guidance are for general awareness, not medical advice.
Do I need an account, location access, or an internet connection?
No account is required. Location access is optional and used when you ask ShanghaiAir to find nearby stations; you can use Shanghai and saved places without sharing your device location. An internet connection is needed to retrieve updated air-quality readings and forecasts.
Which devices can I use, and is there a subscription?
ShanghaiAir 5.0 runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later, in English and Simplified Chinese. It is free to download and use, with no in-app purchases or subscription. Home Screen widgets and Light and Dark Mode are included.
